Let’s go to Suomenlinna!
Did you know that one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites is located a short ferry-ride away from Helsinki city center? Suomenlinna is an inhabited sea fortress that is built on eight islands and in the course of its history it served in the defence of three realms: Finland, Russia and Sweden.
WHAT: ESN Helga goes to Suomenlinna
WHEN: Sunday 29th of August at 12:00
WHERE: Meeting point at Kauppatori, where the ferry leaves from
ESN Helga and tutors will meet you at the ferry at 12:00 be on time! You can ride the ferry with a valid HSL AB -ticket. Remember that it is recommended to wear a mask in public transportation
We will then explore the islands and have a small picnic break. The island has a small grocery store and some restaurants as well. You can pick up some maps or other interesting information at the Suomenlinna visitor center. Wear good walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing, the island is usually quite windy.
We aim to catch the ferry back at 17:00 the latest. The ferries go every 20 minutes and you are free to go back on your own, make sure to not get lost if you wish to go on your own.
